---- Skill Level ----

Every Airfix product includes a skill level rating between 1 to 4, with 1 being the easiest and 4 being more advanced.

We would always recommend an Airfix Starter Set for someone entering the amazing world of plastic modelling. Starter Sets have a lower part count than most, and have been designed specifically for beginners, keeping small parts to a minimum while providing an excellent accurate model for you to build and enjoy.

Skill Level 1 – Beginner / Easy

·       Ideal for total beginners

·       Low part count (25–50 range) or figurines requiring no assembly

·       Requires glue and paint to complete

·       Simple painting schemes with limited decals included

·       Examples: Airfix Starter Sets, 1:72 single engine aircraft, 1:43 vehicles.

Skill Level 2 – Intermediate

·       Suitable for hobbyists with some experience

·       50-100 parts, more intricate assembly

·       Modelling skills such as drilling holes and filing parts may be required

·       Greater detail, finer parts

·       More detailed decal and paint schemes

·       Examples: 1:72 medium sized aircraft, 1:48 single engine aircraft, most 1:76 military vehicles.

Skill Level 3 – Advanced

·       Suitable for experienced modellers who have good painting and assembly skills, or intermediate modellers looking for a challenge

·       100+ parts, many small detail parts

·       Detailed instructions which may include multiple build options

·       Modelling skills such as trimming parts or rigging may be required

·       Larger models with higher part complexity and more intricate paint schemes

·       May include photo-etched parts

·       Examples: 1:72 large aircraft and helicopters, 1:48 medium sized aircraft, 1:35 military vehicles.

Skill Level 4 – Expert

·       Best for seasoned modellers looking for a challenging project

·       200+ parts

·       Highly detailed models may include full interior and engine details, multiple build options and complex colour schemes

·       May include resin parts

·       Examples: Large 1:48 aircraft, 1:24 aircraft, large ship kits.

These levels are guidelines rather than hard rules, but they give a good idea of what to expect. Choosing the right level ensures a more enjoyable and successful build.
