PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Margate, UK – 1st April 2026

Airfix, the UK’s leading manufacturer of plastic model kits, today announced the launch of Airfix PartFinder™, an innovative new mobile application designed to help modellers quickly locate missing parts lost during the build process.

For generations, hobbyists have faced a familiar challenge: the disappearance of small, essential components into the depths of domestic carpets. From undercarriage wheels to delicate antennae, these pieces often vanish without a trace, disrupting builds and frustrating enthusiasts.

Airfix PartFinder™ aims to solve this long-standing issue through advanced detection technology.

Using a combination of surface mapping, micro-shadow analysis and proprietary sprue-recognition software, the app scans carpeted environments to identify and highlight lost model parts in real time. Users simply activate the app, sweep their device across the affected area, and follow on-screen prompts to recover components with precision.

“We wanted to address one of the most universal pain points in modelling,” said a spokesperson for Airfix. “PartFinder™ represents a significant step forward in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.”

Key Features of Airfix PartFinder™

  • Real-time carpet scanning and part detection
  • Intelligent identification of common Airfix components
  • Visual highlighting for quick recovery
  • Optimised for a wide range of domestic environments.

The app has been developed following extensive testing in real-world conditions, including high-pile carpets, low-light environments and beneath furniture where parts are most commonly lost.

During testing, Airfix researchers also documented what they describe as “anomalous movement patterns” within certain carpeted areas. While rare, these occurrences have been noted in the app as unidentified environmental variables. Airfix has reassured users that these phenomena do not impact the app’s core functionality.

“Modellers can be confident that PartFinder™ will significantly improve part recovery rates,” the spokesperson added. “Even in more… active environments.”

Airfix PartFinder™ is available to download from today.

Happy April Fools! Sadly, Airfix PartFinder™ isn’t real (and yes, the carpet monster is still out there).
