History
The F4F Wildcat served as the primary carrier-based fighter for the US Navy at the onset of World War Two. Known for its compact and sturdy design, the Wildcat was developed from a successful series of pre-war biplanes and was introduced to the US Navy a year before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. By the pivotal battles of Midway and Guadalcanal, the F4F-4 variant had become the most prevalent, with new strategies allowing American naval and marine pilots to outmaneuver the previously dominant Mitsubishi Zero.
