BUNDLEA70 VE Day 80th Anniversary 'Flypast' Bundle
Product Info
As the nation prepares to mark this year’s historic 80th Anniversary of VE Day and the end of war in Europe in 1945, hundreds of events are scheduled to be taking place right across the country in commemoration of the millions of Allied personnel who served at home and overseas during WWII, many of whom gave their tomorrow’s so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.
Central to these commemorations, the public have been invited to line the Mall in central London to watch a precession followed by a spectacular flypast by a magnificent selection of aircraft, both current and historic, which will include the iconic Red Arrows and Europe’s only airworthy Avro Lancaster.
Our new VE Day Flypast bundle allows us all to create our own 1/72nd scale model aviation tribute to this spectacular event in some style, with a selection of aircraft types which will be seen overflying The Mall and Buckingham Palace on Monday 5th May 2025.

Marking a significant leap in aviation technology over the biplane fighters prevalent in the mid-1930s, the Spitfire served throughout World War II, continually evolving to remain at the cutting edge of fighter design. Initially introduced as a temporary model, the Mk.V became the most produced variant, equipped with the more powerful Merlin 45 engine and an advanced universal wing, allowing for easy adaptation of different armaments.

This 1:72 scale replica of the sophisticated Lockheed Martin® F-35B® Lightning® showcases the UK's short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) model, engineered to function from conventional airstrips, the decks of Britain's two new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, or dispersed sites akin to the renowned Harrier. Comprising 42 parts and rated at skill level 1, this model embodies the unique design of a fifth generation multi-role combat aircraft that employs stealth technology to excel in hostile environments.
Key Features
- 1:72 scale model with 152mm wingspan
- 42 piece construction suitable for ages 8+
- Skill Level 1 - ideal for beginners
- Depicts the UK's STOVL 'B' variant of the F-35
- Modern-era combat aircraft design
- Plastic construction for detailed assembly
History
Recognised as one of the world's most advanced aircraft, the Lockheed Martin® F-35B® Lightning® is a fifth generation multi-role combat aircraft crafted to excel in aerial dominance, utilising stealth technology to remain undetected in adversarial airspace, targeting enemy strongholds, or transmitting crucial battlefield data to allied forces.
The United Kingdom has chosen the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) 'B' variant of the F-35, enabling their aircraft to operate from standard airfields, the decks of Britain's two new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, and if necessary, from dispersed locations, much like the iconic Harrier did in the past.
In British service, the F-35 will not bear the Lightning II designation, as this new aircraft is actually the third to carry the name in RAF history, following the Lockheed P-38 from World War II and the celebrated English Electric Lightning from the Cold War period.

History
As the third of Britain's four-engined heavy bombers to join the RAF during WWII, the Avro Lancaster stood out as an outstanding aircraft, featuring a spacious bomb bay that enabled it to carry some of the largest bombs of the era. This exceptional capability made it crucial for strategic bombing missions throughout the war.
At least thirty-five Lancasters achieved an impressive milestone of completing 100 missions or more, earning the title Lancaster Centurions from historians and enthusiasts. These aircraft and their crews became legends within Bomber Command, a testament to both the Lancaster's robust design and the expertise of its pilots.
The two schemes provided in this model kit depict notable operational Lancasters: R5868 S-Sugar from 467 Squadron RAAF, and LM624 from 57 Squadron, both of which served with distinction during the conflict.
