History
The introduction of the Bristol Blenheim Mk.I light bomber to the Royal Air Force with No.114 Squadron at Wyton in March 1937 marked a transition from the squadron's Hawker Hind biplane bombers to a more modern air force. With speeds nearly 100 mph faster than its predecessor, the Blenheim was the leading light/medium bomber globally at that time and set the standard for future aircraft designs, including those it would soon encounter in battle.
In the early stages of WWII, Blenheim crews undertook numerous strike missions against enemy targets, operating from bases in the UK and France as part of the Advanced Air Striking Force and British Expeditionary Force. Despite being relatively lightly armed and gaining weight due to continuous equipment upgrades, the Blenheim was outmatched by the Luftwaffe's modern fighters. The RAF endured significant losses during this period, despite the valiant efforts of many Allied pilots.
