Product Info
This 1:72 scale replica of the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB represents one of the RAF's most effective ground attack aircraft from the Second World War. Comprising 74 pieces and rated at skill level 1, this kit is ideal for young modellers aged 8 and up, showcasing a wingspan of 174mm upon completion. By 1943, the RAF required a specialised ground attack fighter, and the Typhoon was well-suited for this mission. Its robust engine enabled it to carry a payload of up to two 1,000lb (454kg) bombs. Starting in September 1943, Typhoons were also equipped with four, eight, or occasionally 12 "60lb" RP-3 rockets. The kit offers markings for two distinct paint schemes, allowing for the creation of authentic D-Day era Typhoons.

History
The Hawker Typhoon became one of the Second World War's most potent ground attack aircraft. Initially designed as an interceptor, it excelled in low-altitude ground attack roles, where its strong engine and durable build were highly effective.
By 1943, the RAF sought a dedicated ground attack fighter, and the Typhoon was ideally suited for this purpose. Its powerful engine allowed it to carry a substantial armament load of up to two 1,000lb (454kg) bombs. From September 1943, Typhoons were also equipped with four, eight, or sometimes 12 "60lb" RP-3 rockets, turning them into formidable tank destroyers and ground attack platforms.
The Typhoon's weaponry made it a formidable force against enemy ground targets. The combination of bombs and rockets enabled Typhoon squadrons to effectively target everything from armoured vehicles to fortified positions. During the D-Day landings and subsequent operations in Northwest Europe, Typhoon squadrons provided vital close air support to Allied forces, striking enemy positions and disrupting German movements.
The aircraft's reputation grew during the campaign in France and the Low Countries, where it played a crucial role in supporting the Allied advance. Typhoon pilots conducted numerous sorties against enemy ground targets, and the aircraft became a key component of the RAF's tactical air power during the final year of the war in Europe.
