Focke-Wulf Fw190A-8/F-8

Product code: A02066A

This detailed 1:72 scale model of the Focke-Wulf Fw190A-8/F-8 allows enthusiasts to recreate one of the Luftwaffe's most powerful World War Two aircraft. Comprising 74 parts and featuring a wingspan of 145mm, this Skill Level 1 kit is perfect for beginners aged 8 and up. It includes two genuine paint schemes, enabling you to depict either the heavily armed A-8 interceptor or the F-8 ground-attack variant.

Key Features

  • 1:72 scale plastic model kit with 74 parts
  • Two paint scheme options for A-8 or F-8 variants
  • Skill Level 1 - suitable for novice modellers aged 8+
  • Finished wingspan of 145mm
  • Accurate representation of a World War Two Luftwaffe fighter
  • Choice to assemble as an interceptor or ground-attack version

History

First taking to the skies in 1939, the Focke-Wulf FW190 posed a significant challenge to RAF fighters upon its introduction in late 1941, being both faster and more agile than the Spitfire V at that time.

The F-8 was designed for ground attacks and was distinct mainly due to the absence of outboard cannons. It could carry various underwing armaments, most commonly featuring a central bomb and four smaller bombs on the wings.

The A-8 model was the most produced and heavily armed version, entering service in 1944 to counter Allied daylight bombing raids. However, by this time, newer Allied fighters had started to surpass it.

Junkers Ju87B-1 Stuka

Product code: A03087A

This 1:72 scale model kit of the Junkers Ju87B-1 Stuka includes 110 parts, providing enthusiasts with a comprehensive build of one of the most notorious planes from the Second World War. Featuring two livery options and a skill level of 2, this set showcases the unique shape of the famed dive bomber, complete with a wingspan measuring 192mm.

Key Features

  • 1:72 scale model with 110 plastic components
  • Includes two genuine livery options with decals
  • Skill level 2, designed for modellers aged 8 and up
  • Detailed model of the iconic Ju87B-1 Stuka dive bomber
  • 192mm wingspan

History

The Junkers Ju87 Stuka quickly gained notoriety as one of the most feared aircraft of the Second World War. This two-man dive bomber first entered combat over Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Despite its outdated look, the Stuka incorporated some advanced features like automatic dive brakes, though its overall design was considered obsolete.

In 1940, the Stuka operated effectively in clear skies over Poland, France, and the Low Countries. However, during the Battle of Britain, it faced strong resistance from RAF fighters over southern England, leading to significant losses. The Stuka later saw action in the Balkans and the Western Desert, and continued its role as a tank destroyer in Russia until the war's conclusion.

An Airfix collection is incomplete without the formidable presence of the Junkers Ju87 Stuka.
