Airfix Club Update 2021

A Year in Review

In June of 2020, we went live with a brand-new version of our much-loved Airfix Club, with the aim to recapture the magic and nostalgia of the Club that many of you grew up with. We spent a long time developing the different areas of the club and were very proud of what eventually went live for you.

However, over the last year, we have been reading your feedback and constantly reviewing the benefits on offer to the Airfix community, and we’ve found that we’re no longer happy with the Club as it stands now. 2020 has brought with it a variety of issues- some outside of our control and some very much in our control.

What We Got Wrong

There have been some really obvious failings on our part- the Club launch, for example. Due to missteps on our part, the website continuously crashed as you were attempting to finalise your orders and this made for a very disappointing launch!

We have also just recently encountered a system issue which affected all of our new club members who signed up in January 2021. It meant that Welcome Packs and free Club Kits were not processed and sent out until the problem was caught. It has now been fixed but we apologise for the inconvenience.

After much reviewing, we also feel like what we’re offering is no longer the best value for money and our goal is to always go above and beyond for the Airfix community. Although the club has proved reasonably popular with many of you, we believe that there is a great deal of room for improvement still!

In terms of issues outside of our control, we have also been adapting to a complete overhaul of our shipping and delivery processes. We are currently unable to ship our Welcome Packs and free club products outside of the UK and while we’re working hard on solutions, this will be an ongoing issue. We understand that this is incredibly frustrating and we can’t apologise enough for disappointing our overseas community in this way.

How We Are Going to Improve the Club

We’re in the early stages of planning a complete overhaul of the Airfix Club. While we don’t want to give any exciting secrets away just yet, we can tell you that this will mark our big move into the digital age! We have heard your complaints and concerns about the lengthy process of redeeming your hard-earned Flying Hours and we want to assure you that simplifying this aspect of the club will be the first thing we address! Making things as easy for you all as possible is a top priority for us and we are incredibly excited to deliver to you, the best version of the Airfix Club yet.

We aim to build a club that is:

·        More Accessible

·        More Exciting

·        Something a serious modeller can’t go without

What Do You Want from the Airfix Club?

Most importantly, we want to include our current members in this process.  This is, after all, your club.  We would love to hear from you about what you would like from an improved version of the club.  Please email your ideas and suggestion to us at hello@airfix.com with ‘New Club’ as the subject. Furthermore, we would love to speak to some of you about the ideas we have planned so if you would like to put yourself forward for an interview then please let us know in your email!

No Changes to your Current Club Membership

The current version of the club will stay up and available to purchase for people within the UK. We don’t plan on removing this option until we have the new Club available to purchase. Your current membership will continue as normal and please be assured that everyone with time left on their year-long subscriptions will be able to choose between moving over to the new version or seeing out the rest of their time on the original, so don’t worry!
