A historic moment for Airfix! On Friday, 6th February at 18:00 GMT, we went LIVE for a watch-along of the maiden flight of our SLS Artemis model rocket, launched to near-space with a high-altitude weather balloon. Our rocket soared to an incredible 110,723 feet!
We’re proud to announce that this achievement has earned us a World Record from the World Record Certification Agency (WRCA) for the “Highest Altitude Reached by a Scale Model Rocket Aboard a High-Altitude Balloon".
Soaring to the top
To put this astonishing height into perspective:
- That’s 102 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other.
- Over three times higher than where passenger planes usually fly.
- Roughly equivalent to stacking 49,462 Airfix SLS Artemis models end-to-end!
