History
With German military planners managing to skilfully outflank Allied ground forces during the early stages of the Battle of France, what remained of the British Expeditionary Force were ordered to make for the town of Dunkirk and possible evacuation back to Britain. With thousands of troops stranded on the beaches, and others fighting tenaciously to repel advancing German Forces, the scene was set for an Allied military catastrophe, and the very real possibility of Britain being forced out of the war at this early stage.
With hundreds of thousands of troops stranded, German forces inexplicably paused their advance, leaving the Luftwaffe to torment the troops stranded on the beaches, and any Naval vessels sent to support them. As far as the Germans were concerned, the Allies were trapped at Dunkirk and there was nothing they could do about the situation. Time was very much on their side, and they were holding all the cards.
An Allied rescue plan was immediately put into operation, but with the waters being so shallow at Dunkirk, officials thought they might be able to bring around 50,000 troops home at best, however, following a call for as many craft as possible to join the evacuation effort, requisitioned boats and several hundred private craft left all ports along the southeast coast of England, some making multiple journeys across the Strait of Dover, each one determined to bring as many of their boys home as possible. Wrenching a glorious victory from the jaws of a terrible defeat, the ‘Little Ships’ of the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ had helped to prevent a military catastrophe and with it, surely provided Britain with her ‘Finest Hour’
Between 26th May and 4th June 1940, ‘Operation Dynamo’ resulted in the rescue of 336,000 British, Commonwealth and Allied troops who had been marooned on the beaches of Dunkirk, a feat which effectively allowed Britain to remain in the war. Now, Britain needed the English Channel to come to its protection like never before, as the threat of invasion was very real, and there was only 21 miles of sea between the south coast of England and an all-conquering enemy.

The infantry units were armed with various weapons such as the Lee-Enfield rifle, Sten submachine gun, and Bren light machine gun, providing essential firepower for the intense battles they faced. History
The Wehrmacht served as the unified military forces of Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945, encompassing the Heer (army), Kriegsmarine (navy), and Luftwaffe (air force). During WWII, Wehrmacht infantry units were active in all theatres of war, from the Eastern Front to North Africa, and from occupying Western Europe to defending Fortress Europe after the D-Day invasion.
German infantry divisions typically consisted of three infantry regiments, supported by artillery, reconnaissance, and engineering units, with a full strength of around 17,000 men, though this number fluctuated throughout the war. Wehrmacht troops primarily used the Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle, with machine guns like the MG34 or MG42 providing squad-level firepower.
By 1944, the German forces protecting the Atlantic Wall and Normandy coast included both seasoned veterans and newly formed divisions. Some units were made up of soldiers with experience from harsh Eastern Front battles, while others included older men, young recruits, or conscripts from occupied regions. Despite this diversity, Wehrmacht infantry remained resolute and tactically skilled adversaries during the Normandy battles.
The German infantry's distinctive appearance was marked by their Feldgrau (field grey) uniforms, coal-scuttle Stahlhelm helmets, and varied personal gear. Officers often carried map cases and binoculars, and wore leather greatcoats, while grenade throwers were equipped with the iconic Stielhandgranate, or "potato masher" grenades.
Infantry tactics focused on leveraging small unit firepower, with squads centred around the machine gun rather than the rifle. This approach, developed during WWI and refined in the interwar years, proved highly effective in both offensive and defensive operations throughout the war.

The Morris CS8 15-cwt 4x2 General Service Trucks were produced in significant quantities and formed the backbone of the British Army. The pairing of the dependable Morris tractor with the formidable Bofors 40mm gun resulted in a mobile anti-aircraft unit that was operational throughout the Second World War, safeguarding soldiers, convoys, and installations from aerial threats. The extensive use of the Bofors system by Allied forces highlighted its effectiveness, with the gun remaining in service long after the war concluded.
A staple vehicle in the British Army, the Bofors 40mm Gun & Tractor is a must-have for any military and Airfix collection, providing modellers the opportunity to recreate a crucial piece of wartime history.

History
The initial production Spitfire Mk.I was handed over to RAF No.19 Squadron at Duxford on 4th August 1938, marking the debut of a future legend in aviation. With numerous enhanced versions serving throughout WWII, the Spitfire is arguably the most celebrated fighter aircraft ever.
Conceived by R.J. Mitchell as a high-speed, short-range interceptor, the Spitfire marked a significant advancement from the biplane fighters of the early 1930s. Inspired by the racing seaplanes of the Schneider Trophy, Mitchell engineered an aircraft that blended sleek aerodynamics with impressive performance. The Mk.I was equipped with the Rolls-Royce Merlin III engine and typically carried eight .303 Browning machine guns in its wings.
By the outbreak of war in September 1939, the RAF had received around 400 Spitfires, which proved invaluable during the Battle of Britain in 1940. Alongside the Hawker Hurricane, the Spitfire became a symbol of British resistance, playing a vital role in defending against the Luftwaffe. The Mk.I's speed, agility, and firepower made it a formidable opponent for the German Bf 109E fighters.
The early Spitfire Mk.I models excelled in combat, with their distinctive elliptical wings becoming one of aviation's most recognisable shapes. Pilots lauded the aircraft's responsive controls and excellent handling, which gave them a fighting chance against larger enemy forces during the critical summer of 1940.

History
The Junkers Ju87 Stuka quickly gained notoriety as one of the most feared aircraft of the Second World War. This two-man dive bomber first entered combat over Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Despite its outdated look, the Stuka incorporated some advanced features like automatic dive brakes, though its overall design was considered obsolete.
In 1940, the Stuka operated effectively in clear skies over Poland, France, and the Low Countries. However, during the Battle of Britain, it faced strong resistance from RAF fighters over southern England, leading to significant losses. The Stuka later saw action in the Balkans and the Western Desert, and continued its role as a tank destroyer in Russia until the war's conclusion.
An Airfix collection is incomplete without the formidable presence of the Junkers Ju87 Stuka.
