- Modern-era combat aircraft design
- Plastic construction for detailed assembly
History
Recognised as one of the world's most advanced aircraft, the Lockheed Martin® F-35B® Lightning® is a fifth generation multi-role combat aircraft crafted to excel in aerial dominance, utilising stealth technology to remain undetected in adversarial airspace, targeting enemy strongholds, or transmitting crucial battlefield data to allied forces.
The United Kingdom has chosen the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) 'B' variant of the F-35, enabling their aircraft to operate from standard airfields, the decks of Britain's two new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, and if necessary, from dispersed locations, much like the iconic Harrier did in the past.
In British service, the F-35 will not bear the Lightning II designation, as this new aircraft is actually the third to carry the name in RAF history, following the Lockheed P-38 from World War II and the celebrated English Electric Lightning from the Cold War period.

History
Serving as the backbone of the contemporary Royal Air Force, the Typhoon has undergone continuous enhancements throughout its operational life, making it far more advanced than when it first arrived at RAF Coningsby in 2006. Now a common sight in the skies over Britain, the Eurofighter Typhoon stands as the RAF's present-day airspace guardian. While it was initially introduced in 2006 as a dedicated air superiority fighter, this fourth-generation combat aircraft has demonstrated capabilities far beyond that role.
Now recognised as the world's most sophisticated swing-role combat aircraft, the Typhoon has evolved into a genuine multi-role platform and is arguably among the most efficient combat aircraft in service today. It is equally proficient in conducting reconnaissance and precision strike missions as it is in intercepting the latest Russian aircraft entering British airspace.
To enhance the enjoyment Airfix can offer to many, these Starter Sets are ideal for any novice eager to hone their modelling skills. This exceptional model not only provides a more accessible building experience but also includes everything necessary to complete your first aircraft model.

History
Renowned as one of the most iconic aircraft to ever soar through the skies, the Supermarine Spitfire is as recognisable today as it was during the intense aerial battles of the Battle of Britain. Conceived as a short-range, high-speed interceptor, it drew inspiration from inter-war seaplanes that vied for the Schneider Trophy. Marking a significant leap in aviation technology over the biplane fighters prevalent in the mid-1930s, the Spitfire served throughout World War II, continually evolving to remain at the cutting edge of fighter design. Initially introduced as a temporary model, the Mk.V became the most produced variant, equipped with the more powerful Merlin 45 engine and an advanced universal wing, allowing for easy adaptation of different armaments.
To enhance the joy Airfix offers to many, these easier-to-build-and-paint Starter Sets are ideal for any novice. This exceptional model not only features a more child-friendly assembly but also includes a custom shadow-effect stand for display. - Skill level 3 build offering a rewarding modelling experience

- Depicts RAF Chinook HC.1 variant from the early 1980s
History
An aircraft that perhaps best exemplifies the capabilities of modern helicopters, the formidable Boeing CH-47 Chinook has been in military service for over six decades and is expected to remain in the skies for the foreseeable future.
This heavy-lift helicopter's unique tandem twin-rotor setup ingeniously counterbalances engine torque by having its large rotor blades spin in opposite directions, eliminating the need for the tail rotors typically seen on helicopters.
The impressive Chinook took its maiden flight in 1961 and has since become one of the most successful aircraft designs of the post-war era, able to operate in nearly any environment, regardless of how challenging the terrain. This versatility has made the Chinook indispensable for a wide range of military and civilian tasks.
As the largest operator of the Chinook outside the United States, the Royal Air Force ordered 33 of these heavy-lift giants in 1978, with No.18 Squadron becoming Britain's first operational Chinook unit in August 1981.
These initial helicopters were designated HC.1 (Helicopter Cargo Mk.1) and were quickly called into action when events on the other side of the world necessitated their first overseas mission. Following the Argentinean invasion of the Falkland Islands in April 1982, five of the RAF's Chinooks were encased in Driclad PVC protective covers and loaded onto the deck of the requisitioned container ship Atlantic Conveyor.
Sadly, all but one of these helicopters were lost after an Exocet missile hit the vessel, with the surviving Chinook achieving legendary status within the RAF. Having served in the Royal Air Force for over 42 years, the latest versions of the mighty Chinook are expected to remain in service for many years to come.
