History
An aircraft which many regard as the most significant advancement in aviation technology of the entire 20th century, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 series of fighters incorporated a host of advanced features which had never previously been seen on a fighting aeroplane, such as stressed skin construction, retractable undercarriage, wing leading edge slats and slotted flaps.
These were all incorporated into a relatively small, but extremely strong airframe, one which also utilised the most powerful engine the airframe could handle. This aircraft was made to allow the Luftwaffe to dominate Europe’s skies.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 saw service throughout the Second World War, and was produced in greater numbers than any other fighter aircraft in history.
Significantly, it was also the aircraft type responsible for producing more ‘Ace’ pilots than any other aircraft in history. A thoroughbred fighting aeroplane, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 heralded an exciting new era in the world of aviation.

History
Regarded as one of the most formidable fighter planes in aviation history, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 consistently led the way in fighter design and, much like its rival the Spitfire, underwent continuous development throughout the Second World War.
The fighter's major versions typically aligned with advancements in the Daimler Benz engine that powered it. Among the five primary variants, the F or 'Friedrich' is often seen as the most polished iteration of the Bf 109.
Debuting in the spring of 1941, the Bf 109F outperformed the RAF Spitfires of that period and was piloted by numerous successful Luftwaffe aces. The Friedrich boasted enhanced aerodynamics over previous models, featuring a reworked engine cowling, rounded wingtips, and a retractable tailwheel. These improvements provided the aircraft with outstanding handling and made it a formidable adversary in the European and North African skies during 1941 and 1942.
These Starter Sets are crafted to introduce newcomers to the fulfilling hobby of scale model building, offering an accessible starting point for recreating one of the Second World War's most pivotal fighter aircraft.

History
As the seasoned Bf109 pilots of the Luftwaffe commenced operations against Britain post-Dunkirk evacuation, they encountered a new disadvantage. With fuel reserves allowing only short durations over England, any mechanical failure or combat damage often led to capture, accelerating the end of their mission.
The Bf109 E emerged in late 1938 as a significant evolution of Willy Messerschmitt's famed aircraft design. The earlier Junkers Jumo 210 engine was replaced with the larger, more potent Daimler Benz DB601, requiring enhanced cooling systems and relocated radiators within the strengthened wings. During the summer of 1940, the Bf109 E became synonymous with the Luftwaffe, engaging in intense dogfights with the RAF's Spitfires and Hurricanes over the English Channel and southern England.
The E-3 and E-4 variants boasted improved weapon configurations, with the E-4 introducing the advanced MG FF/M cannon capable of firing explosive Minengeschoß rounds. These aircraft were integral to many of the Luftwaffe's esteemed Jagdgeschwader units during the Battle of Britain, where they faced the strategic challenge of defending bomber formations while operating at the edge of their fuel limits. Despite their technical advantages in certain areas, this operational limitation was a crucial factor in the battle's outcome.
